As the cooling air pulls away summer memories, there is a sense of beginning again, not only for students, but for the many who had a chance to rest and recharge.
I spent a good part of my summer contemplating the purpose of my blog. A year of interesting personal stories about my life and career path provided a window into how my creativity developed, but did it really serve the people I wanted to connect with?
Reflecting back on my earliest lessons in marketing, I broke the first rule I learned from Ann Rea’s Creative Live class, “Making Money Making Art.” “It’s not about you, it’s about them.” I spent my energy “justifying” my ability to create compelling video that helps small businesses reach their buyers when I should’ve let testimonials and my body of work do that.
It was Chris Brogan’s blogging webinar that reintroduced the idea that we need to be a resource to our readers and not just “sell” ourselves. So “The Cinematic Craftsman” blog has evolved into “Seen and Heard : Connecting You to Your Buyers.” My intent is to explore the multitude of possibilities available for small businesses to communicate their message and find out what works. Through my experience and those of others in articles, surveys, studies and interactions with you, I hope to make this a valuable asset readers could look forward to and use to help their businesses thrive! I’m also going to have in-depth interviews on my podcast, “The Spotlight is Yours – Amplifying Your Business” and more personal stories and insights in my newsletter.
